ARTIST STATEMENT
Vanessa is a Brisbane-based artist who explores the intersection of still life and the quiet, inherent beauty found within Australian domestic spaces. Her work investigates how everyday objects - whether collected, found or imagined - can evoke memory, familiarity and even intimacy.
Reflecting on modern society, with its fast content and imagery, consumerism and throw away culture, Vanessa considers her compositions a bower... a collection and curation of, at times, overlooked but beautiful ‘things’ either sourced or owned, which carry hidden narratives tied to Australian identity, nostalgia and the human experience.
